Ghana: National AIDS Control Programme letter to Danaher to reduce the price of GeneXpert test
The National AIDS/STI Control Programme of Ghana sent an open letter to the US corporation Danaher, and its subsidiary diagnostics test maker Cepheid, requesting a reduction in the price of the GeneXpert test for HIV and hepatitis, so that more people can be properly diagnosed and receive timely treatment. The price for these tests are currently unaffordable at $14.90 per test. The letter highlights the critical need for these tests for people living with HIV and hepatitis in remote settings, emphasizing the importance of avoiding testing delays and timely treatment initiation, especially for infants whose lives depend on the rapid results that can be delivered by GeneXpert.
