MSF and civil society organisations sent this letter to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and UNICEF, calling for the organisations to ensure affordable pricing and equitable access to the mpox vaccine. The price of the mpox MVA-BN vaccine is estimated to be US$50-75, which will risk depleting Gavi’s resources, leaving little for future outbreaks. Gavi must use its leverage as the largest vaccine procurer in low- and middle-income countries to demand a lower price for the vaccine and ensure effective use of public funds. Gavi must also support Africa CDC’s coordination efforts in the mpox outbreak response in affordable procurement, and equitable and transparent distribution, of mpox vaccine doses. Gavi must also support the strengthening of local manufacturing efforts for vaccines.
